How to Change the Color of a Pentair Light?

If you have an Intellitouch or Easy Touch LED control board, switching between the colors of a Pentair light is a breeze. Simply go to the menu and choose the color and programming of your choice to make the desired changes.

With any other type of control board, the method for changing lights is different. Here’s how it goes:

Start by turning on your pool lights.
Turn the switch off and then turn it on again after 1 second.

Repeat this procedure to cycle through all the available colors and stop when you find your desired color.

If you want to sync all the lights to the same color, flip the switch on, and then off again for 11 to 13 seconds. Now turn on the lights to have them all in the same color.

If your LED pool light is not working or is stuck on one color, it can be due to several reasons. Here’s a quick troubleshooting guide and easy solutions for each problem.

Faulty Color Wheel Motor

Some pool lights feature rotating lenses in different colors to change the light’s color in the bulb. The light shines through each lens to give the bulb a different color. These rotating bulbs are driven by a motor, which means the process of light changing is entirely dependent on the motor.

Since the motor is a mechanical tool, it is bound to fail with the passage of time. When the motor of the color lens expires, the pool light remains stuck on a single color due to the immovable lens.

Solution

You can purchase a new motor for your Pentair light color wheel and replace it easily. But keep in mind finding a compatible motor can be hard and costly. In such a case, purchasing a new pool light will be a better option.

The Bulb is Burnt Out

If some colors in your pool light are missing, the tiny bulbs/diodes on the LED board of the light may have failed.

To find out if one of the smaller lights in the bulb has failed, switch on your pool light and change the colors. If all colors are functioning except one or two, the tiny diodes on the LED board may have burnt out.

Solution

While the problem diagnosis is pretty easy, the solution requires a purchase and a few DIY skills. If one of the bulbs on the LED board of your pool light has burnt out, get a replacement bulb. Then, follow the steps below.

Firstly, disconnect the pool lights from the power source.
Unscrew the pool light and remove it from the pool.
Next, take out all the screws and bolts required to remove the gasket and cover of the light.

Test each diode/bulb for power using a multimeter.
Remove the expired bulb and replace it with a new one.
Check the new one for power, and then follow the above steps in reverse to install the light back into the pool again.

Flooded Fixture

Sometimes the pool lights can stop changing color if the light fixture is flooded with water. Moisture or water contact with the lights or the motor can make either of these faulty. As a result, they will stop functioning smoothly or at all.

A flooded light fixture can be caused by a faulty gasket causing leaks within the light or from the area where the cord enters into the fixture.

Solution

First of all, remove the pool light and open the gasket.
Drain the water, if any. Then, let it dry completely.

To avoid further leaks, replace the gasket with a new one.
Install the light again and see if the color is changing.
If not, you may have to replace the light or the LED board.

Corrosion or Rust Build-up

Most pool light fixtures are prone to corrosion or rust build-up over time. Rust build-up around any electrical components can make the light faulty and cause it to not change colors.

To find out if your pool light fixtures have corroded, you’ll have to remove the light and inspect them. After removing the light, find out if there’s any rust build-up around the electrical components.

Solution
